Syrian, Egyptian FMs discuss ties in Cairo visit
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani met on Sunday his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty in Cairo, in his first visit to Egypt since the fall of the former government, as both sides discussed strengthening bilateral relations and regional developments.
According to an official statement, the two ministers held an expanded session of talks in the Egyptian capital focusing on ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries and coordinate positions regarding ongoing regional changes.
The discussions addressed mechanisms to develop bilateral relations and expand cooperation across areas of mutual interest, alongside reviewing the latest developments on both regional and international levels.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated that the meeting was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem and Syria’s Minister of Economy and Industry Mohammad Nidal al-Shaar.
The statement added that the talks also covered fast-moving regional developments, including the trajectory of US-Iran negotiations and ongoing efforts aimed at de-escalation and reducing tensions in the region.
This visit comes amid renewed diplomatic engagements between regional actors following recent political shifts in Syria.
