QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A prominent Shiite cleric was killed on Friday after a grenade attack targeted his vehicle in the Sayyida Zainab area in the countryside of Damascus, according to local sources and eyewitnesses.
Sheikh Farhan Hassan al-Mansour, a member of the Shiite Scholars Board in Syria and a preacher at the Sayyida Zainab shrine, succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transferred to a hospital.
Local sources reported that unidentified individuals threw a hand grenade into al-Mansour’s car, causing severe injuries. He was immediately taken to al-Kawthar Hospital in the city of Sayyida Zainab, where he later died.
Eyewitnesses confirmed hearing a loud explosion in the area, followed by the arrival of security forces and ambulances at the scene.
Government security forces announced that an investigation into the incident has been launched. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
