Security member killed in clashes with drug dealers in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A member of the Internal Security Forces of the Syrian transitional government was killed and another injured on Monday during armed clashes with suspected drug dealers in a town southeast of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A security source from the Internal Security Forces in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that a patrol raided several hideouts used by drug dealers in the al-Tayba and al-Fayhaa neighborhoods on the outskirts of al-Mayadin town.

The source said violent clashes broke out between the patrol and the suspects, resulting in the death of Internal Security member Khaled al-Radwan and the injury of another officer. Two of the suspected drug dealers were also wounded in the exchange of fire.

According to the source, the patrol managed to arrest a number of suspects, while others fled the area. Security units are continuing operations to pursue the remaining suspects inside the town.
