QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Jordanian army announced on Sunday that it had thwarted an attempt to smuggle narcotics from Syrian territory into Jordan using a drone, according to official statements.
The Jordan News Agency reported that the Northern Military Zone intercepted the smuggling operation at dawn, after detecting an unmanned aerial vehicle approaching from the Syrian side of the border.
It stated, “The Northern Military Zone thwarted, at dawn on Sunday, an attempt to smuggle a quantity of narcotic substances using a drone on its northern front, after it was detected by border guard forces, and rules of engagement were applied.”
The agency added that security forces conducted search and inspection operations following the interception, leading to the seizure of a quantity of narcotics. The confiscated materials were handed over to the relevant authorities.
Jordan has repeatedly announced similar incidents in recent years, citing attempts to smuggle drugs across its northern border with Syria. These operations have often involved drones or coordinated crossings, particularly in areas facing southern Syria.
Damascus has not immediately commented on the incident.
