Syria, Jordan foil 943 kg captagon smuggling at border
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian and Jordanian counter-narcotics authorities announced on Wednesday that a joint security operation had thwarted an attempt to smuggle approximately 943 kilograms of captagon through the Jaber border crossing.
The Syrian Interior Ministry said in a statement that the operation followed weeks of intelligence coordination and information exchange between the two sides, after monitoring the activities of a criminal network involved in cross-border drug trafficking.
According to the statement, authorities were able to identify the network’s methods and closely track one of the smuggling trucks before intercepting it upon arrival at the crossing. The driver was arrested in coordination with the relevant authorities.
During inspection, the seized quantity was found carefully concealed within the structure of the vehicle. Officials noted that the substance was captagon in raw form, not yet pressed into pills, and could be processed into approximately 5.5 million tablets.
The ministry confirmed that cooperation with regional and international partners would continue to combat drug trafficking networks and pursue those involved in such activities, emphasizing efforts to enhance public security and stability.
The operation is part of a series of coordinated efforts targeting transnational narcotics networks, with previous operations resulting in the seizure of large quantities of captagon and the arrest of suspects in coordination with regional security agencies.
