QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The United Arab Emirates on Saturday condemned an attack targeting its diplomatic mission and the residence of its head of mission in the Syrian capital Damascus, calling on Syrian authorities to open an urgent investigation into the incident.
In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “We strongly condemn the acts of rioting and attacks that targeted our diplomatic mission and the residence of the head of mission in the Syrian capital Damascus.”
It added: “We express our strong denunciation of attempts to vandalize property and insult national symbols, and affirm our categorical rejection of these practices that violate international laws and norms.”
The ministry stressed “the necessity for the Syrian side to uphold its obligations to protect diplomatic premises and their staff in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.”
According to the statement, the UAE called on Damascus “to open an urgent investigation into the circumstances of the incident, to ensure it is not repeated and to hold those responsible accountable.”
Videos circulating on social media showed protesters gathering outside the UAE embassy in Damascus, expressing rejection of a recently issued Israeli law concerning the execution of Palestinian prisoners.
The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions, with diplomatic missions operating under international protections that require host authorities to ensure their security.
