Landmine blast kills three children in southern Idlib

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Three children were killed and two others injured on Friday after a landmine exploded in the town of al-Habit in the southern countryside of Idlib, according to field sources.

The sources reported that the explosion occurred while a group of children was present in the area, resulting in the deaths of Yousef Omar al-Haj Abdullah, Yousef Radwan al-Sawadi, and a third unidentified child.

Two other children, identified as Ibrahim Mohammad al-Sawadi, 10, and Yazan Radwan Daban, were injured in the blast. They were transferred to a nearby medical point for treatment.

The incident comes amid ongoing warnings about the dangers posed by landmines and unexploded ordnance scattered across parts of Idlib countryside, remnants of years of conflict that continue to endanger civilians, particularly children.

Local sources have repeatedly highlighted that such explosive remnants remain a persistent threat in areas that witnessed heavy fighting, with limited clearance operations conducted so far.
