Remains believed to be civilians found in Syria’s Homs
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Residents in Homs Governorate, central Syria, discovered on Friday human remains in a rugged land in what local sources believe may be the bodies of civilians killed years ago.
Sources told North Press that the remains were found in rough terrain close to the village of al-Qabu, north of Homs, after a shepherd noticed parts of bones protruding above the soil while grazing his flock in the area. He later informed the relevant authorities.
Al-Qabu village witnessed heavy military activity and displacement during previous years of the Syrian conflict.
According to the sources, this was not the first such discovery in the area. Since the fall of the Syrian regime, similar findings have been reported at multiple sites across the area, where victims are believed to have been buried in remote locations away from public view.
Local residents say the repeated discoveries have raised concerns about the presence of unmarked burial sites scattered across rural parts of Homs, believed to date back to earlier phases of the conflict.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the latest discovery or the identity of the remains.
