One killed, another injured in landmine blast in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – One person was killed and another injured on Monday in a landmine explosion in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, marking the second such incident in the area within hours.
A local source from the town of al-Tebni, northwest of Deir ez-Zor, told North Press that a landmine left behind from previous conflicts exploded targeting a motorcycle carrying two men on the outskirts of the town’s desert.
The two individuals were reportedly heading to collect desert truffles when the blast occurred.
The explosion killed Aswad Zuhair al-Obeid, 49, and injured Aswad al-Yassin, according to the source.
The incident comes hours after three other civilians were killed in two separate landmine explosions in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor earlier the same day.
With the latest incident, the number of casualties from landmine explosions in Deir ez-Zor countryside has risen to four and one injured within the past 24 hours.
Landmines and unexploded ordnance continue to pose a persistent threat to civilians in eastern Syria, particularly in rural and desert areas where residents often rely on activities such as farming and truffle hunting.
