Three killed in separate landmine blasts in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Three civilians were killed in two separate incidents involving war remnants in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, over the past hours, local sources said on Monday.
A local source from the village of al-Hissan, north of Deir ez-Zor, told North Press that a landmine left behind from previous conflicts exploded in the morning in an agricultural area in the village’s desert.
The source said the explosion occurred while a group of young men were attempting to open a drainage path for rainwater in the land.
The explosion killed Aboud al-Sayed, 37, who succumbed to injuries caused by shrapnel across his body.
In a separate incident on Sunday, two civilians, Majed al-Aswad and Sultan al-Ruwaiei, were killed when a landmine exploded in the desert near a former base of the Fatemiyoun Brigade in the countryside of Kabajib village, west of Deir ez-Zor.
The two men were reportedly searching for desert truffles at the time of the explosion.
Landmines and unexploded ordnance continue to pose a serious threat to civilians across Syria, particularly in former conflict zones, where such remnants frequently cause casualties among residents engaging in daily activities.
