One Syrian Defense Ministry member killed, another injured in attacks in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A member of Syria’s Defense Ministry was killed and another injured in separate attacks on Friday night targeting military personnel and a security facility in the countryside of Palmyra and Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A military source from the Syrian Defense Ministry in Palmyra told North Press that unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle stormed the house of a Defense Ministry member, identified as Abdulbaset Qouzi, near the town of al-Sukhnah east of Homs. 

The attackers opened fire on him using a Kalashnikov rifle, killing him instantly, the source said, adding that the gunmen seized his mobile phone before fleeing to an unknown destination.

In a separate incident, Talal al-Hamad, another Defense Ministry member, was injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire on him while he was heading from a market to his home in the village of al-Hissan, west of Deir ez-Zor.

Meanwhile, a military facility belonging to the Internal Security Forces in the village of al-Zur in Deir ez-Zor southeastern countryside came under gunfire from unidentified sources, causing material damage but no casualties, according to the same source.

Attacks by unidentified gunmen targeting military and security personnel have continued in several areas of eastern Syria in recent months.
