Landmine blast injures young man in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – An 18-year-old man was seriously injured on Tuesday after a landmine left over from past conflicts exploded in Deir ez-Zor eastern countryside, eastern Syria, local sources said.

A source from the town of Diban told North Press that the device detonated as the young man, identified as Ahmad Ali Abdul Razzaq, approached it in the town of Diban.

The source said he sustained shrapnel injuries to multiple parts of his body and was urgently transferred to hospitals in Damascus for treatment. A local doctor described his condition as extremely critical.

The incident comes two days after one person was killed and another injured in a separate landmine explosion in the town of Khsham, east of Deir ez-Zor, underscoring the continued threat posed by war remnants in the region.

Since the beginning of February, seven people have been killed and others wounded by landmines and unexploded ordnance in Deir ez-Zor countryside, highlighting the persistent danger facing civilians in conflict-affected areas.
