Two government members killed in Deir ez-Zor attacks

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Two members of the Syrian transitional government forces were killed and others injured on Monday, along with civilians, in a series of separate security incidents in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A security source from the security forces in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire on a checkpoint of the forces on the main road in the village of Hawaij.

The attack resulted in the killing of a member of the security forces and a civilian who was near the site.

In a separate incident in the town of al-Mayadin, unknown assailants targeted Fahd Abdul Younes – a security forces members – and his brother, killing Fahd and wounding his brother.

Another security member was also shot and injured in front of his home in the town of Abu Kamal, after being targeted by gunmen on a motorcycle.

The attacks come amid ongoing security challenges in Deir ez-Zor, where targeted killings and armed assaults continue to be reported.
