Syrian Interior Ministry announces seizure of rockets in Deir ez-Zor

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s Interior Ministry announced on Monday that security forces seized quantities of rockets and various weapons prepared for smuggling outside the country during a security operation in al-Mayadin area in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

In an official statement, the ministry said that units of the Internal Security Directorate in al-Mayadin, in coordination with the General Intelligence Service, carried out a security operation that resulted in the arrest of a suspect identified by the initials “J.S.” and the confiscation of rockets and assorted weapons intended for illegal transfer abroad.

The ministry stated, “Units of the Internal Security Directorate in the al-Mayadin area, in cooperation with the General Intelligence Service, carried out a security operation that led to the arrest of the individual ‘J.S.’ and the seizure of rockets and various weapons that were prepared for smuggling outside the country.”

According to the statement, the operation was launched based on what authorities described as “accurate intelligence information.” Security units subsequently raided the suspect’s hiding location, thwarting what officials called a plan to smuggle anti-tank missiles and anti-aircraft machine guns.

The ministry added that all seized materials were confiscated and transferred to the relevant authorities, while the detainee was referred to the Counter-Terrorism Department to complete investigations and pursue legal measures.
