DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A landmine explosion killed on Tuesday a man, his daughter, and his niece, and injured three others in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A local source from the town of al-Zughair told North Press that the landmine detonated under the family’s vehicle while they were driving through the desert outskirts of the town near the Qusaybah area.
The source said the explosion killed Ahmad Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, his daughter, and his niece, while three other family members—including a woman—were injured.
According to the source, the area was previously under the control of Iranian-backed militias and continues to witness sporadic explosions caused by remnants of war, resulting in civilian deaths and injuries.
The source added that repeated appeals to the relevant authorities to carry out demining operations have so far gone unanswered.
