Israeli army destroys Islamic Group weapons cache in southern Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Israeli army announced on Tuesday that it carried out a nighttime operation resulting in the discovery and destruction of a weapons depot belonging to the Al-Jama’a Al-Islamiya (the Islamic Group) in the Beit Jinn village in southern Syria.
In a statement, the Israeli military said that forces from the Division 210 conducted the operation last week, during which they uncovered large quantities of military equipment.
The cache reportedly included various weapons, landmines, and communication devices, all of which were destroyed at the site.
The statement added that the Islamic Group continues to carry out operations against Israel and its citizens on the northern front, activity that began during the war and remains ongoing.
According to the Israeli army, the operation is part of a broader series of actions undertaken by the Division 210 aimed at removing security threats and thwarting terrorist activity in the area, with the stated goal of protecting Israeli civilians, particularly residents of the Golan Heights.
The announcement comes a day after the Israeli army said it had arrested a senior member of the Islamic Group in southern Lebanon.
