Mass grave discovered in al-Tadamon neighborhood of Damascus
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Government civil defense teams discovered on Wednesday a mass grave containing human remains near Daaboul Street in the al-Tadamon neighborhood of Damascus, according to official media reports.
State-affiliated outlets said the grave was found during ongoing searches in the area, adding that the remains are believed to belong to unidentified individuals. Security forces reportedly imposed a security cordon around the site as forensic teams began work to locate and document the remains.
Local media cited residents as saying that the site is part of a series of mass graves linked to violations committed in the neighborhood during previous years of the conflict. Initial reports indicated that the grave may contain the remains of up to 11 victims, though no official confirmation has yet been issued regarding the exact number.
Civil defense teams are continuing their efforts to determine the full scope of the grave and to identify the remains, according to the reports.
The discovery in Damascus came a day after residents in the city of Tadmur (Palmyra), east of Homs in central Syria, found another mass grave containing the bodies of five unidentified individuals. Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding that site.
Mass graves have been uncovered in several parts of Syria in recent months, particularly in areas that witnessed intense fighting or security operations. Human rights organizations have repeatedly called for transparent investigations, proper forensic procedures, and the preservation of evidence to help determine the identities of victims and the circumstances of their deaths.
No information has yet been released regarding the timeline for completing work at the al-Tadamon site or whether the remains will be transferred for further forensic examination. Officials have not announced whether families of missing persons will be involved in the identification process.
