QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The commander of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), Gen. Brad Cooper, announced on Wednesday that US forces carried out five airstrikes against targets belonging to the Islamic State (ISIS) across Syria in recent days, as part of ongoing efforts to prevent the group’s resurgence.
In a statement, Cooper said that the strikes were “successfully executed” against ISIS positions in different parts of the country. He specified that the operations took place between January 27 and February 2, 2026.
“Striking these targets demonstrates our continued focus and resolve for preventing an ISIS resurgence in Syria,” said Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander. “Operating in coordination with coalition and partner forces to ensure the enduring defeat of ISIS makes America, the region and the world safer.
Coalition officials have repeatedly warned that ISIS, while territorially defeated in 2019, continues to pose a security threat through sleeper cells and sporadic attacks, particularly in remote and desert regions. Airstrikes are often carried out to support ground operations, disrupt militant networks, and target leadership or logistical hubs.
