Syrian Interior Ministry says Qamishli entry marks new phase
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government security forces entered on Tuesday the Kurdish-majority city of Qamishli in northeastern Syria under an agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), as officials described the move as a positive step toward stability and reconciliation in northeastern Syria.
Syrian Interior Ministry spokesperson Nouraddin al-Baba said the forces entered the city amid what he described as a “very positive atmosphere,” praising the role of the Asayish forces in organizing and securing the entry.
Speaking to media outlets from outside a security headquarters in Qamishli, al-Baba said there was “notable attention and clear organization” by the Asayish during the entry process, thanking them for their cooperation and warm reception.
“The Syrian people are in need of these positive atmospheres,” al-Baba said, adding that “today, the Syrian people in all their components have prevailed, and today we begin a new page to build a new Syria away from revenge, hatred, and divisive rhetoric.”
He stressed that Syria can only be rebuilt through the efforts of all its people, including Arabs, Kurds, Turkmen, Syriacs, and other components, noting that the country needs the participation of all its citizens to move forward.
Al-Baba expressed hope that all provisions of the agreement would be fully implemented to achieve benefits for all Syrians, emphasizing that Hasakah Governorate in particular “does not need more bloodshed, but rather more development.”
He added that following the agreement and the entry of state institutions, Hasakah could once again become a vital economic, urban, and cultural center for Syria.
According to local sources, around 15 military vehicles carrying more than 100 security personnel and officials entered Qamishli through the western entrance of the city (Amuda Road) and proceeded to the security square in the city center, escorted by Asayish forces.
The deployment comes as part of the implementation of the agreement that provides for the gradual integration of SDF military and administrative structures into state institutions. Syrian security forces entered the cities of Hasakah and Kobani on Monday as a first phase of the agreement.
