Kurdish delegation expected to meet with Syria’s al-Sharaa

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Shalal Gado, a Kurdish politician, told North Press on Tuesday that the delegation of the Kurdish National Council in Syria (ENKS) is expected to meet with Syrian Transitional President, Ahmad al-Sharaa in Damascus.

Gado said the ENKS delegation’s visit to Damascus came in response to an official invitation from the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, adding that the delegation has already begun its meetings with Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani.

During the meeting with al-Shaibani, Gado explained, emphasis was placed on the national, political, and cultural rights of the Kurdish people, the necessity of enshrining those rights in Syria’s permanent constitution, and the importance of opening a political dialogue to reach a just solution to the Kurdish issue within a unified and democratic Syria.

Commenting on why the ENKS delegation did not travel to Damascus as part of the joint Kurdish delegation formed by the Kurdish Unity Conference held in April 2025, Gado said the council continues to push for activating that framework and taking it to Damascus for dialogue with Syrian officials.
