Syrian Internal Security enters Kobani to coordinate with local forces

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Internal Security forces entered on Sunday the northeastern city of Kobani, meeting with the region’s local Asayish forces as part of a recently announced coordination agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Colonel Mohammad Abdulghani, head of Aleppo’s Internal Security, confirmed the deployment, stating, “We entered Kobani based on the agreement ratified by the Syrian state and met with the Internal Security forces in the area.” He emphasized that discussions focused on organizing local administration and integrating government police operations with the existing Asayish structures.

The agreement, announced earlier this week, outlines the phased entry of Syrian government security forces into key northeastern cities including Qamishli, Hasakah, and Kobani. Officials from both sides aim to ensure coordinated management of security affairs while maintaining the established roles of local forces.

Abdulghani noted the importance of timely implementation, saying, “Delays in applying any agreement negatively affect the situation. We now aim to begin implementing the agreements seriously.” He added that preparations for deployment are underway, with timing dependent on technical arrangements and mutual coordination.

The Internal Security chief further stressed the principle of equal administrative standards across Syria, noting, “Kobani, Sarrin, and surrounding areas are like any region of Aleppo and any Syrian area; there will be operational systems and standards applied to all, as they are Syrians.”

Eyewitnesses in Kobani reported the arrival of government security personnel at key checkpoints and coordination meetings with Asayish officers, signaling the first tangible step in the joint agreement’s implementation. Local administration sources confirmed that both sides are preparing procedural measures to ensure smooth operational cooperation.
