ISIS-linked gunmen kill Syrian military personnel in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown gunmen killed late Friday a member of the Ministry of Defense of the Syrian transitional government in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, while security forces arrested five suspects accused of carrying out attacks on government personnel.

A security source in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle targeted a Defense Ministry member during his leave, shooting him in front of his home in the town of Abu Kamal, east of Deir ez-Zor.

The source said the victim was killed instantly, while the attackers fled the scene chanting slogans in support of the Islamic State (ISIS).

In a separate incident, government security forces carried out an operation in the village of al-Bahra in eastern Deir ez-Zor, arresting five individuals accused of attacking a military post in the village.

The attack resulted in the killing of two security personnel and the wounding of five others, in addition to targeting other security members at different locations in the village.
