UNHCR sends humanitarian aid convoy to Kobani

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Gonzalo Vargas Llosa, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Representative in Syria, said on Sunday that a humanitarian and relief aid convoy has headed toward Kobani in northern Syria.

In a post on X, Llosa stated that, “Thanks to cooperation with the Syrian government at the Aleppo and Damascus levels, a convoy of 24 trucks carrying essential food supplies, relief items, and diesel fuel departed Aleppo approximately one hour ago toward Kobani in northern Syria.”

He explained that the assistance is provided by the United Nations in Syria and non-governmental organizations, aiming “to deliver life-saving aid and winter support to civilians affected by the hostilities.”

In recent days, the Kurdish city of Kobani, located on the Syrian-Turkish border, has witnessed a significant wave of displacement from surrounding rural areas toward the city due to clashes between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and government forces. The city is also facing a siege that has deprived residents of basic means of livelihood.
