U.S. senator calls for calm, government-SDF ceasefire adherence in NE Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen said on Saturday that calm must prevail in areas of escalation in northeastern Syria, while ensuring the security of Islamic State (ISIS) detainees and continuing integration talks.
In a post on X platform, Shaheen said “I urge the Syrian government and the SDF to de-escalate and uphold their ceasefire.
On Saturday evening, the Ministry of Defense of the Syrian transitional government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced a 15-day extension of the ceasefire.
Shaheen added that she was “monitoring reports of violations closely.”
The senior Democratic lawmaker noted that “Calm must prevail as ISIS detainees are secured and integration talks must continue so all Syrians can live in security and freedom.”
