Kurdish politician says Syrian government violates ceasefire, stalls for time
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Foza Youssef, member of the Presidential Committee of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), said on Tuesday that the Syrian transitional government has failed to adhere to the ceasefire agreement, stressing that the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are “ready to uphold the ceasefire, but the Syrian government is trying to buy time.”
In an interview with Sky News Arabia, Youssef said that “Damascus is seeking a centralized authoritarian system and wants us to disarm and surrender without any guarantees or concessions.”
She added that “there are no guarantees to protect the Kurds in Syria.”
The Kurdish politician reiterated that Kurdish forces remain prepared to commit to a ceasefire, accusing the Syrian transitional government of using negotiations as a tactic to stall, according to Sky News Arabia.
Youssef also called for international guarantees to protect Kurds in Syria, emphasizing that they remain open to dialogue with Damascus, provided that such talks are not conducted “under the threat of weapons.”
