SDF commander says ceasefire efforts continue despite government attacks
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Commander in Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, said on Sunday that efforts to de-escalate and secure a ceasefire in northeastern Syria are continuing with international assistance, despite ongoing attacks by forces of the Syrian transitional government.
In a statement to the Kurdish Hawar News Agency, Abdi said that “despite all our attempts and efforts to halt the escalation and work toward de-escalation, the attacks are still continuing until now.”
Earlier on Sunday, local and Kurdish media reported that Abdi had arrived in Damascus ahead of a highly anticipated meeting with Syrian Transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa, to be attended by U.S. special envoy Tom Barrack.
On Saturday, Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani hosted a high-level meeting on Syria in Pirmam, bringing together Tom Barrack, Wendy Green, Kevin Lambert, SDF commander Mazloum Abdi, and Mohammed Ismail.
The participants stressed the importance and necessity of dialogue, stability, and coexistence in a new Syria.
