AANES says Syrian government insists on military option despite peace efforts

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said on Sunday that despite all efforts to find peaceful solutions, the Syrian transitional government remains committed to the military option.

In a statement published on its official website, the AANES said that “factions affiliated with the Damascus transitional government have violated the agreement and attacked our forces on more than one front since yesterday morning and up to this moment.”

The statement added that “despite all efforts to pursue peaceful solutions and demonstrate good faith, including withdrawing from certain areas, Damascus insists on continuing the fighting and pursuing a military approach.”

The AANES stressed that the objective of these attacks is “to undermine the brotherhood forged through the blood of our young men and women, to incite sedition and violence among the components of Northeast Syria, to target Syria’s indigenous communities, and to impose a single identity over the country’s diverse social fabric.”

It called on “all segments of our people, especially young men and women, to arm themselves and prepare to confront any potential attack in the Jazira region and Kobani,” adding, “We must understand that we are facing an existential war. To preserve the gains of our revolution and our identity, there is only one option, popular resistance.”

The AANES urged residents to rally around their forces and unite to confront what it described as a “brutal attack,” calling on everyone to remain on high alert.

On Saturday, the AANES warned of growing dangers surrounding the detention facility holding Islamic State (ISIS) prisoners in the city of Raqqa.

It said that “the continuation of attacks and military escalation in the surrounding area could destabilize security at the prison, posing a real threat of reactivating terrorist cells—an outcome that would have catastrophic consequences not only for Northeast Syria, but for Syria, the region, and the world at large.”
