Unified Syria requires integration of SDF, not war against anti-ISIS allies – Macron

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – French President Emmanuel Macron said on Sunday that a unified and stable Syria can only be achieved through the integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and not by waging war against those who fought the Islamic State (ISIS) alongside us.

In a post on X platform, Macron stressed that the offensive launched by the Syrian transitional government “must stop immediately,” adding that “France and Europe cannot support the continuation of such an approach.”

He noted that “a comprehensive agreement can be reached,” and described the presidential decree on Kurdish rights, issued a day earlier, as “a step in the right direction.”

Macron said France would continue its “efforts to support this negotiating path in support of the unity of Syria and the integrity of its territory,” adding, “This is the position of a country that is a friend of Syria and the Syrian people.”
