US CENTCOM Commander urges restraint in Aleppo amid rising tensions
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), Admiral Brad Cooper, said on the X platform that Washington is closely monitoring developments in Aleppo and its surrounding areas, calling on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and prioritize the protection of civilians and vital infrastructure.
In a post published on X, Cooper wrote, “We are closely monitoring developments in Aleppo and the surrounding region. We urge all parties to exercise maximum restraint, avoid actions that could escalate tensions, and prioritize the protection of civilians and critical infrastructure.”
The statement comes amid heightened security concerns in parts of northern Syria, where intermittent military activity and shelling have raised fears of further escalation near civilian-populated areas. Aleppo province remains a sensitive and strategic area due to the presence of multiple armed actors and its proximity to frontlines.
Cooper also reiterated the US call for renewed diplomatic efforts, stressing dialogue as the preferred path toward stability. “We also continue to call on all relevant actors to return to the negotiating table in good faith to and to pursue durable diplomatic resolution through dialogue,” he said in the same post.
Highlighting the broader regional impact of stability in Syria, the CENTCOM commander added, “As I have previously stated, a Syria at peace with itself and with its neighbors can lead to a more peaceful and prosperous Middle East.”
He further noted that regional stability serves shared interests, stating, “The United States and Syria share an interest in preserving peace and stability across the region.”
