SDF denies military buildup near Aleppo, government sends reinforcements
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) denied on Monday reports of military mobilization in the countryside of Aleppo, while Syrian government forces announced the arrival of reinforcements to the area.
In a statement, the SDF said it was monitoring what it described as “misleading claims” issued by the Ministry of Defense in Damascus regarding alleged movements around the towns of Maskanah and Deir Hafer. The statement stressed: “We confirm there are no movements or military buildups of our forces in the mentioned areas, and all circulated allegations are baseless.”
The SDF added that the repetition of such claims by the Ministry of Defense for the second time amounted to an attempt to provoke tension and create pretexts for escalation. The statement held government authorities fully responsible for any potential consequences.
Meanwhile, a military source from the Syrian government told the state-run al-Ikhbariya channel that reinforcements had been dispatched to Aleppo’s countryside, claiming the move was in response to SDF mobilizations in the region.
The developments come amid heightened sensitivities in northern Syria, where multiple armed actors maintain positions across contested frontlines. The SDF, backed by the U.S.-led coalition, continues to administer areas under the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), while government forces retain control over parts of Aleppo governorate.
The SDF reiterated its commitment to stability in the region, rejecting accusations of military escalation and emphasizing that its forces remain in their current positions.
