Landmine blast kills one person, injures two in Syria’s Homs
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A landmine explosion killed on Tuesday one person and injured two others in eastern Homs countryside, central Syria.
A local source from the town of al-Sukhnah, east of Homs, told North Press that a landmine detonated while a group of young men were moving through the al-Kudair desert near al-Sukhnah.
The source said the explosion killed Abdul Karim al-Abboush, 27, and injured Youssef al-Ghanim and Musa’ed al-Swailim.
According to the source, the surrounding desert remains heavily contaminated with war remnants and unexploded ordnance. Despite repeated appeals by local residents to the relevant authorities to clear the area, no effective action has yet been taken.
