Asayish say 3 killed, 26 wounded in shelling of Aleppo neighborhoods
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces (Asayish) announced late Tuesday that three people were killed and 26 others wounded after government forces shelled three neighborhoods under their control in Aleppo, northern Syria. The neighborhoods—Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiyeh, and Bani Zaid—are home to more than 600,000 civilians, the Asayish said.
In an official statement, the Asayish said, “Factions affiliated with the Damascus government launched an attack with all types of heavy weapons (tanks, heavy artillery, Grad and Katyusha rocket launchers, mortar shells, and DShK of all types) on the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiyeh, and Bani Zaid which contain more than 600,000 civilians.”
The statement added that the strikes “hit most areas of the three neighborhoods, especially (Maghsalat al-Jazira, Farrouj Ammar, al-Hasan Mosque, the Grand Sheikh Maqsoud Mosque, the furniture street in Ashrafiyeh, 15th Street, 20th Street, Martyrs’ Square, al-Sheqif, the youth housing, and Ma’ruf neighborhood).”
The Asayish reported significant material damage across dozens of homes and buildings due to the impact of shells and rockets. First responders moved casualties to local medical points as teams assessed damage across the affected streets and squares. The Asayish did not immediately release the identities of the victims, pending notification of families.
The Asayish also said it “foiled five infiltration attempts into the neighborhood, with a number of killed and wounded among the factions attacking the three neighborhoods,” without specifying the exact toll among the attackers.
