QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Lebanese Army announced on Sunday the detention of 35 Syrians in multiple districts during security operations carried out on January 3, citing offenses including shooting, possession of weapons, drug use, human smuggling, and moving without legal papers.
The operations also led to the arrest of nine Lebanese citizens, according to an official statement. The army said it seized quantities of weapons, war ammunition, narcotics, and military gear, with investigations opened under the supervision of the competent judiciary.
“In the context of the ongoing pursuit of wanted persons and those disrupting security, on 3 January 2026 Army units, each supported by a patrol from the Directorate of Intelligence, carried out exceptional security measures in several Lebanese areas,” the statement read.
It added that the measures “included raids, patrols, and checkpoints,” resulting in the arrests in the districts of Akkar, Tripoli, Batroun, Baalbek, and Hermel. The army underscored that all seized items were handed over and investigations were initiated immediately under judicial oversight.
