CENTCOM reports 25 ISIS fighters neutralized in Syria operations
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Tuesday that its forces, in coordination with partners in Syria, killed and detained nearly 25 members of the Islamic State (ISIS) following a major airstrike carried out on December 19.
“U.S. and partner forces killed or captured nearly 25 ISIS operatives during the days that followed a Dec. 19 large-scale strike in Syria,” CENTCOM said on US social media platform X.
Earlier this month, on December 14, U.S. and Syrian forces came under attack near Palmyra during a joint patrol by an ISIS-linked assailant. U.S. President Donald Trump vowed to respond to the incident.
CENTCOM noted that the recent security actions were part of Operation Falcon Eye, launched on December 19. The operation involved U.S. and Jordanian forces striking more than 70 targets with over 100 precision munitions. Dozens of fighter jets, attack helicopters, and artillery units participated, destroying ISIS infrastructure and weapons storage sites across central Syria.
Admiral Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander, stressed that the United States will not relent in pursuing ISIS. He underscored continued cooperation with regional partners to eliminate the group’s threats.
Cooper added that ISIS was linked to 11 plots or attacks against targets inside the United States in 2025. He said that in the past 12 months, more than 300 suspected militants were arrested and dozens killed, as part of efforts to prevent the group’s resurgence and reinforce global security.
