Landmine blast kills one, injures several near airbase in Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – One person was killed and several others were injured on Monday in a landmine explosion near Abu al-Duhur military airbase in the eastern countryside of Idlib, northwestern Syria.
Local sources told North Press that the explosion occurred as a group of civilians passed near the airbase, killing one person instantly and injuring four others to varying degrees.
The wounded were transferred to nearby medical facilities in the town of Taftanaz, where their injuries were described as moderate. The final casualty toll remains unconfirmed.
According to the sources, the mine was a remnant of earlier military operations that took place at the airbase and in its surroundings, amid the continued presence of landmines and unexploded ordnance in the area.
They added that similar incidents have been reported repeatedly across several parts of the Idlib countryside due to the absence of comprehensive mine-clearing efforts, posing an ongoing threat to civilians and significantly increasing daily risks to their lives.
