SDF foils terrorist attack on checkpoint in eastern Deir ez-Zor
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Sunday that they had foiled an armed attack targeting one of their security checkpoints in the town of Abu Hamam, eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside, east Syria.
In a statement published on its official page, the SDF said, “Our forces foiled a treacherous terrorist attack carried out by armed assailants on one of our checkpoints in the town of Abu Hamam in eastern Deir ez-Zor.”
The statement added that the assailants used rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) during the attack, but SDF fighters immediately responded and repelled the assault.
According to the statement, the attack resulted in no casualties among SDF fighters, while the assailants fled the area following the confrontation.
The town of Abu Hamam, located in eastern Deir ez-Zor along the Euphrates River, has witnessed repeated attacks by remnants of terrorist cells seeking to undermine security and stability in the region. The SDF, backed by the US-led Global Coalition, continues to conduct counterterrorism operations aimed at dismantling sleeper cells and protecting local communities under the governance of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
The SDF reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security and preventing further terrorist attempts in the area.
Security patrols were reinforced around Abu Hamam to pursue the attackers and prevent future incidents.
