ISIS intensifies attacks in NE Syria, 16 strikes reported in October
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells carried out at least 16 assaults in areas of northeastern Syria in October, marking a sharp increase of the attacks, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said on Thursday.
According to the SOHR, ISIS has stepped up its operations in regions controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), using a variety of tactics including bombings, ambushes, and targeted assassinations.
It added that these attacks “reflect the group’s continued activity and its ability to reorganize its cells, exploit security gaps, and inflict heavy losses.”
The SOHR warned that the surge in attacks demonstrates ISIS has not been fully defeated, but rather is repositioning itself to remain a persistent threat across northeastern Syria.
