Syrian Defense Ministry holds talks in Serekaniye on faction integration
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A delegation from the Syrian Ministry of Defense visited on Tuesday the city of Serekaniye (Ras al-Ain) to discuss the integration of Turkish-backed armed factions into the ministry’s structure, a security source told North Press on Wednesday.
The source said the delegation held meetings with local military police officials and representatives of the armed groups operating in the city. The discussions focused on procedures to integrate both the factions and the local military police into the official framework of the ministry.
This follows a visit by a Syrian Ministry of Interior delegation to Serekaniye in September, during which officials sought to activate the internal security apparatus in the city. At that time, an agreement was reached to register 300 new personnel in the local security system.
The security source told North Press that the outcomes of Tuesday’s discussions with the factions remain unclear. He added that a subsequent meeting with Turkish forces in the area is expected, though no date has been confirmed.
