Car bomb explodes near police station in Baniyas, causing material damage
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A car exploded on Monday afternoon in the coastal city of Baniyas, Tartus Governorate, after an explosive device had been planted inside the vehicle near a local police station, local sources said.
The explosion occurred near one of the police posts in the city center. According to eyewitnesses who spoke to North Press, the blast resulted from an improvised explosive device (IED) attached to a police vehicle parked adjacent to the station.
Sources confirmed that the explosion caused only material damage, with no reported casualties among civilians or police personnel. Nearby buildings and vehicles sustained limited damage due to the force of the blast.
No group has claimed responsibility for the incident as of the time of reporting, and the Syrian Ministry of Interior has not issued any official statement regarding the explosion.
While no official comments were available, the incident underscores ongoing security challenges facing Syrian authorities in maintaining stability in coastal regions. These areas, though distant from frontlines, continue to witness sporadic acts of violence and sabotage.
