Gunmen kill 2 Syrian military personnel in Aleppo countryside

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Two members of the Ministry of Defense in the Syrian transitional government were killed late on Sunday in the city of al-Bab in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, northwestern Syria, after being targeted by unidentified gunmen.

Field sources told North Press that the attackers, riding a motorcycle, opened fire directly on the two men in the Abu al-Zandin area before fleeing to an unknown destination, prompting a wide security alert in the area.

The sources identified the victims as Shaaban Ali Madino and Ali Shaaban Madino, both from the village of Ainjara in the western Aleppo countryside. They served within Division 80 of the Ministry of Defense of the Syrian transitional government.

The sources added that the attack occurred while the two men were carrying out field duties in the area that has periodically witnessed similar assassination operations.

Following the incident, security forces imposed a tight cordon around the site, while the victims’ bodies were transported to a nearby hospital in preparation for being handed over to their families in Ainjara.

According to the same sources, the military police launched an investigation into the assassination, amid suspicions that the perpetrators belong to a cell linked to former regime members active in parts of the Aleppo countryside, accused of conducting repeated assassinations targeting members of the Syrian transitional government.
