Israel thwarts weapons smuggling from Syria to Lebanon
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Israeli military announced that it intercepted a weapons smuggling operation from Syrian territory toward Lebanon, detaining several suspects during the operation near Mount Hermon inside Syria.
Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee said forces from the Golan Brigade, in coordination with Unit 504, monitored suspicious movements along the border before intervening, confiscating weapons, and transferring the detainees for investigation.
Last Thursday morning, Israeli forces conducted a new incursion into several villages south of Quneitra Governorate, accompanied by intensive aerial patrols over southern Syria.
In recent Months, Israeli activity in Quneitra countryside has increased, with forces advancing around Sida al-Hanut, establishing a new checkpoint, and enforcing heightened security measures.
Movements were also reported along the road linking al-Samdaneyya al-Sharqiya and Khan Arnabah, where a temporary inspection barrier was set up, in addition to a checkpoint between Ufaniya and Jubata al-Khashab.
The operations reflect Israel’s ongoing monitoring of the Syrian-Lebanese border and its attempts to prevent arms trafficking from the conflict zones in southern Syria.
