Syrian police seize cannabis farm in Damascus countryside
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Thursday that it had raided a farm on the outskirts of Douma city in the eastern Ghouta region of Damascus countryside, where large quantities of cannabis were being cultivated. Several individuals involved in the operation were detained.
In an official statement, the ministry said, “Based on received information and precise field monitoring, the Anti-Narcotics Branch in Damascus Countryside, in cooperation with the Internal Security Directorate in Douma, carried out a raid targeting one of the farms on the city’s outskirts.”
The ministry added that the operation resulted in the discovery of a plantation containing cannabis plants used in the production of hashish. The total amount seized was estimated at approximately 240 kilograms.
“All confiscated materials were seized, and the farm’s owners were arrested and referred to the competent judicial authorities to complete the necessary legal procedures,” the statement continued.
Drug-related crimes have become an increasing concern across government-held areas in Syria, particularly around Damascus and the southern governorates. Over recent months, Syrian authorities have announced multiple seizures of narcotics and arrests linked to drug trafficking networks operating both locally and regionally.
