Aleppo Governor announces full ceasefire after overnight clashes
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib announced on Tuesday the achievement of a comprehensive ceasefire across the city following the violent incidents that took place overnight in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods.
Earlier, the Minister of Defense in the Syrian Transitional Government, Murhaf Abu Qasra, confirmed reaching an agreement with the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), General Mazloum Abdi, on a full ceasefire covering all fronts and military points of deployment in northern and northeastern Syria.
In statements to state media, Governor al-Gharib said the agreement affirms “a firm commitment to implementing the provisions of the March 10 agreement, in an effort to prevent further bloodshed and to safeguard the security and safety of civilians.”
He added, “We are working with all field teams to follow up on the situation of residents and address the negative impacts resulting from last night’s events, to ensure life returns to normal between the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods and other parts of the city.”
The ceasefire announcement follows localized clashes that had raised fears of escalation in Aleppo’s northern districts. Both sides have since pledged to maintain calm and facilitate coordination on the ground to stabilize the situation.
Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh, neighborhoods administered by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), have remained relatively stable in recent years due to the presence of internal security units affiliated with the SDF, which coordinate with local authorities to ensure public safety and protect civilians.
The reaffirmation of the March 10 agreement — regarded as a central framework for security cooperation and de-escalation between Damascus and northeast Syria — is seen as a key step in preventing renewed hostilities and restoring normal life for residents in Aleppo.
