ISIS cells behind attack on Coalition convoy in Deir ez-Zor – SDF
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Abjar Daoud, spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), told North Press on Tuesday that Islamic State (ISIS) cells carried out an attack on a U.S.-led Global Coalition convoy in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
“The attack carried out by ISIS cells on a routine patrol of Coalition forces and our forces was a deliberate assault,” Daoud said.
The incident occurred on Sep. 20, when two gunmen targeted a U.S. military convoy conducting a joint patrol with SDF forces in the same area.
“In response, Coalition and our forces returned fire deterring the cell and killing those responsible,” Abjar added.
He emphasized that the attack underscores the ongoing threat posed by ISIS. “Today, ISIS continues to launch such operations against our forces and Coalition troops, requiring intensified efforts to dismantle these cells and eliminate their threat entirely,” he noted.
In a statement released on Monday, the SDF reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the war against ISIS, saying that with the active participation of the Global Coalition, “have waged one of the most complex battles of our time against terrorism.”
