Ocalan calls for strengthening Kurdish–Arab unity in Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Abdullah Ocalan, the imprisoned Kurdish leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), has sent a message to Arab tribes in northeastern Syria, stressing that historic Kurdish–Arab relations are key to the country’s future.

Kurdish media reported on Sunday that the message, dated July 27, was addressed to sheikhs and tribal leaders in Hasakah, Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, and Tabqa. In it, Ocalan emphasized that “the unity of Arabs and Kurds on the basis of the democratic nation is a cornerstone for building a democratic and secure Syria.”

He urged strengthening the historic bonds between Arabs and Kurds and voiced support for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in facing current challenges.

Ocalan recalled milestones in Arab–Kurdish relations, noting that their brotherhood played a central role in the Kurds’ entry into Islam and flourished for centuries thereafter.

Underscoring the political and social importance of today’s alliance, he reaffirmed his support for Kurdish–Arab unity built on equality, freedom, and justice.

He added that the support of Arab tribes for the SDF could play a “historic role in building a democratic, safe, united, and just Syria.”
