Syrian president hosts US CENTCOM chief and special envoy

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syrian President Ahmad al-Shar’a received U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) commander Charles Bradley Cooper on Friday, accompanied by U.S. Special Envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack at the People’s Palace in Damascus.

The Syrian presidency announced on Telegram, “President Ahmad al-Shar’a and his wife Latifa al-Droubi received Admiral Charles Bradley Cooper, commander of the U.S. Central Command, and his wife Susan Cooper, along with U.S. Special Envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack and the accompanying delegation, in the presence of several ministers and senior officials.”

The meeting reportedly discussed “prospects for cooperation in political and military fields, serving mutual interests and strengthening the foundations of security and stability in Syria and the region.”

The presidency added that the meeting reflected “positive atmospheres and a shared commitment to enhancing strategic partnership and expanding communication channels between Damascus and Washington at various levels.”
