ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) held a meeting on Friday with a high-level German diplomatic delegation in Aleppo to discuss key Syrian issues, including ways to advance a comprehensive political solution.
The meeting was attended by SDC official Jihan Muhammed at the council’s Aleppo office, along with Tulia Odhran, Head of Middle and Near Eastern Affairs at the German Embassy, Alla Schindler, Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy in Damascus, and Stephan Kamel, Political Affairs Officer at the mission.
In a statement on its official website, SDC said the talks focused on “enhancing a comprehensive political solution in Syria and strengthening the foundations of sustainable peace.”
The council presented a detailed overview of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) as a local model aimed at ensuring stability and consolidating democratic governance principles.
Discussions also touched on the March 10 agreement between the Syrian Transitional Government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), as well as the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh agreement, reviewing challenges that have hindered full implementation and exploring ways to support community reconciliation at the local level.
The dialogue further covered preparations for the upcoming People’s Assembly elections. Both sides emphasized the importance of full and equal participation of all Syrian communities and sects throughout the political process, including the development of national solutions, peacebuilding, and ensuring equal rights for all Syrians.
According to SDC, the German delegation expressed its country’s strong interest in the situation of displaced persons and those forcibly displaced, stressing the priority of creating safe and dignified conditions for their voluntary return to their places of origin. The delegation underscored that this step is central to reconstruction efforts and to strengthening long-term stability in Syria.
