Brazil thanks AANES, SDF for repatriating citizens from Syria
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Brazil received on Sunday a woman and a child from families of the Islamic State (ISIS), following a formal handover by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), as part of humanitarian cooperation.
Earlier the same day, a Brazilian delegation headed by João Zanini, Chargé d’Affaires of Brazil’s Embassy in Damascus, visited the headquarters of the AANES Department of Foreign Relations in Qamishli.
In a statement, the Department of Foreign Relations said the delegation was welcomed by Fanar al-Kait, co-chair of the department, along with Deputy Co-chair Gulistan Ali, administrative member Khaled Ibrahim, and Lana Hussein, a representative of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ).
Discussions during the meeting addressed the general situation in Syria, negotiations with the Syrian transitional government, parliamentary elections, and both the security and humanitarian situation in the region.
According to the department, AANES officials reaffirmed that “the solution in Syria lies in a comprehensive political process that guarantees the participation of all communities, including the implementation of the March 10 agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the transitional government in Damascus, while rejecting any elections imposed with a unilateral mentality and lacking genuine representation.”
The Brazilian delegation expressed gratitude for the coordination and support provided by AANES and the SDF, acknowledging their efforts to safeguard Brazilian citizens until their repatriation.
