DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen on Thursday called on all Syrian parties to remove the causes of escalation and to secure the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the southern city of Suwayda
Speaking during a UN Security Council session on Syria, Pedersen said that they welcome the formation of a committee to oversee a ceasefire in Syria, and they are observing a reduction in violence in Suwayda.
The envoy stressed that individual appeals within Syria seeking external support have fueled accusations of separatist intentions. He warned that such calls risk aggravating tensions at a critical time.
Pedersen also welcomed efforts led by the United States, Jordan, and Syria to establish a working group aimed at supporting a nationwide ceasefire. According to him, coordinated steps remain essential to prevent renewed instability and to allow humanitarian aid to reach affected populations.
