Landmine blast kills civilian in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A man was killed on Saturday evening when a landmine detonated under his vehicle in the southern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
Local sources told North Press that Fallah Farhan al-Khashman died after a landmine exploded beneath the small truck he was driving in the Kabajib area, south of Deir ez-Zor city.
Al-Khashman was originally from the town of Suluk in the north of Raqqa.
This incident came just days after a child was killed and his brother injured when another landmine, a remnant of past battles, exploded in Kabajib.
Landmines and unexploded ordnance remain among the deadliest risks facing civilians in Deir ez-Zor and other former conflict zones in Syria. Despite ongoing clearance operations, mines continue to claim lives almost daily.
